Cultural Exchange Pioneer and Founder of AIFS, Sir Cyril Taylor, has passed away

Sadly last week our community lost a great visionary and pioneer for au pair and cultural exchange programs. He was also someone who significantly contributed to the development of international youth travel worldwide.

Sir Cyril Taylor, Chairman and Founder of the American Institute For Foreign Study (AIFS), passed away last Monday at the age of 82.

Sir Cyril founded AIFS in 1964 and was a true visionary in every sense of the word. His life’s work was dedicated to the enrichment of young people through education. This was his passion.

Sir Cyril was the founder and Chancellor of Richmond, the American International University in London and, during his long career, he was instrumental in transforming the UK secondary school system, working with 10 UK Secretaries of State for Education towards that goal.

In 1989, he was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II for his dedication and contribution to education. And, in 2003, he was advanced to a Knight Grand Cross of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (GBE). 

“His support as a mentor and his example of true leadership will be remembered and cherished by all those who were priviliged to have had to opportunity to work alongside him. His legacy will be continued by all at AIFS to ensure it continues to provide high quality educational and cultural programs to thousands of young people each year.”
