US Au Pair Programme hit by temporary Suspension after White House Proclamation

Yesterday, 22 June 2020, the White House issued a proclamation suspending some non-immigrant visas.
The White House fact sheet can be accessed here.
Unfortunately, and despite strong opposition and advocacy from host families, sponsor organisations and members of Congress, the au pair programme is included in the proclamation.

The proclamation suspends certain categories of the J-1 Exchange Visitor Program (EVP) effective 24 June through 31 December 2020, with a review and possibilities for modifications every 30-60 days or potential continuation of the suspension.
The Alliance for International Exchange has put out a press release which can be accessed here.

There are still many unanswered questions about the implications of this proclamation for US au pair programmes and we, therefore, will come back to you with ongoing updates as things become clearer over the next few days and weeks.

Rest assured that the American sponsors, together with the Alliance for International Exchange, will do everything possible to save our cultural exchange programmes and that IAPA with all their members will support our American partners.
